Western Data Center UPS Replacement

Overview
FSG performed electrical engineering and Data Center design consulting for the UPS replacement project at the Department of Information Technology Western Data Center. The goal of the project was to replace the existing UPS systems with new UPS modules and distribution system to provide improved capacity, reliability and increased efficiency. The total project budget was $1,500,400.00 including construction reserves, design fees, and planning reserve. The scope of work included:
Phasing/logistical planning to keep data center operational during construction and cutovers.
Updating short circuit, arc flash, and selective coordination study for the data center.
Construction Phasing Plans to minimize potential outages at the Center.
Assisting with developing UPS system cutover scripts and attend cutover activities.
Witnessing the functional testing of the UPS and associated systems.
Analyzing the current ventilation system for proper emergency ventilation requirements.
Construction services included a pre-bid walk through and meeting, bid opening meeting, bid evaluation, and bid recommendation letter. Additionally, FSG attended construction administration meetings during the construction phase, performed shop drawing reviews and responses to contractor Requests for Information (RFIs), and participated in construction cutover activities and witness functional testing of the installed systems.
